We, the Dundee Baptist Church — according to the Bible, people are the church not some building — are a family. Now before you get the wrong impression, no one said that we are a perfect family or even a family that has it all together. We aren't even all of the family, just the part of it that meets together, regularly in a building at 14040 S. Custer Road, Dundee, MI, 48131, and elsewhere, from time to time.
When we come together, whether in whole or in part, we celebrate what God is doing in, through and, sometimes, in spite of us. We also pray together, worship God, exalt the Lord Jesus, try to be led by and filled with the Holy Spirit We also study the Bible, encourage one another, cry together, laugh together, sing, plan together, serve together, eat together and do many other things that believers in Christ do. After, all we are not an organization, business, institution or work force; we are a family.
Like all families, we have our moments and our differences. We come from dissimilar religious, economic, social, genetic, historic, cultural, psychological, emotional, ancestral, and national backgrounds. Yet, we are a family. You see, each of us is adopted, not naturally born, which, in some ways, makes our being family even more special. God, as the adopter, took us in even though He knows full well where we came from, as well as knowing all of our faults and problems.
We were ushered into the Family of God by means of God's sovereign grace by personal faith in Jesus Christ and what He accomplished on the cross. That faith is a family trait and the vehicle through which God's grace (unmerited favor) and forgiveness of sins flow. Another common feature in this family is that when we believed, God gave us His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is an earnest, or guarantee, to the child of God that s/he will receive an inheritance, i.e., eternal life. But the Holy Spirit is also our “Paraclete" (lit., one called alongside) and “Comforter”. In other words, He provides major benefits to us as family members right now.
That's more than cool! We can take no credit for any of this. God is the One who makes being in the family possible. In fact, you may have thought that in light of the all the above this document is all about us. Let us assure you that it is not. This is actually about you.
We want you to become a part of the family too. So does God. We can say that about God based upon God's own words. The Bible says: "For this is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:3, 4). No one is not invited. There is no limit to how many can accept God's offer of salvation and adoption into His family. Essentially, you are the only one who keeps you out. The matter is up to you.
There are other benefits to being in the family of God. Hope can be yours. In the family you can experience how great it is to have hope (real, not false) in spite of whatever happens in the world or in you personal life. There is nothing like hope. All of us are hurting without it — big time. In addition, you can have victory over all kinds of oppressive habits, addictions, attitudes, and other self-destructive tendencies. Additionally, you will notice that you will begin to change from the inside out. That is how God works in His family. Consequently, our natures and desires change and the destructive things of old begin to lose their hold on us.
None of the above means that life won’t present problems. The difference is that once you are in the family, you will have the best resources to deal with them as they arise.
How about it? Wouldn't you like be part of the family? You can by repenting and then trusting in the person of Jesus Christ. For more information, click here.
