AWANA

What is AWANA?

Every Wednesday, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM during the school year, children begin to arrive at DBC, pass through the front and rear doors of our building and head for the sanctuary. Once there, they participate in a a brief opening assembly, then proceed to one of three fun activities that, together, last the rest of the evening. They either go to council time, book time or game time. The order in which the children do these things depends on the age group, and the club they belong to, either Cubbies, Sparks, T&T (Truth & Training) or Trek. The children memorize Scripture, for which they receive merit awards and other rewards. Each age group has its own distinctive shirt or vest to wear that serves as a place to display merit and achievement awards. Our clubs are a part of a larger group of clubs that meet all over the world in all kinds of churches.

AWANA is a nondenominational youth ministry committed to “reaching boys and girls with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and training them to serve Him.” The heartbeat of Awana is reaching children around the world with the good news that Jesus Christ loves them and can save them from sin. Each week, more than one million boys and girls in over 110 countries attend AWANA clubs where they play games, memorize Bible verses and listen to Bible stories.

From preschool to high school, children and youth have fun while being taught the Word of God. The weekly Awana clubs all function basically the same way. A 90-minute to two-hour club session features three segments: Game Time, Handbook Time and Council Time. During Game Time, boys and girls play games on the unique Awana Game Square. In Handbook Time, children work through age-appropriate handbooks memorizing Bible verses and doing activities ranging from patriotism to community service. They earn awards based on their work. The final segment, Council Time, consists of singing, puppets, Bible stories and lessons based on Christian principles.

Besides weekly meetings, other AWANA activities occur throughout the year. AwanaGames competitions bring area churches together to compete in games. Bible Quiz meets allow kids to test their knowledge of Scripture. Each summer, over 9,000 young people attend 40 Awana Scholarship Camps across America and Canada.

A child may enroll in our AWANA clubs at any time during the school year. Doing so will not be a problem for either the child[ren] or us. In fact, we encourage enrollment whenever it works for you. We are ready to enroll your child[ren] at any time. Call us for more information or with any questions.
